Explore the Fortifications of Vauban

The Fortifications of Vauban consist of 12 different fortified buildings along the western, northern and eastern borders of France. They include citadels, city walls and watchtowers. These old fortifications represent the most beautiful buildings of Sébastien le Prestre de Vauban and are considered the best of typical western military architecture. Vauban was a military engineer of King Louis XIV. The fortifications played an important part in strengthening Europe and other continents until the middle of the 19th century. A unique UNESCO world heritage site with an extraordinary historical background!

Admire Amiens Cathedral

The impressive Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady in Amiens is 145 metres high and 70 metres wide. This is one of the largest Gothic churches of the 13th century and a beautiful UNESCO world heritage site. What makes this remarkable cathedral unique is the coherence of its design, the beauty of its three-tier interior elevation, the large, covered galleries and the magnificent high windows. There are two bronze graves inside the cathedral, one of which is Edward de Foutilloy’s grave. He was the bishop who started the reconstruction of this beautiful cathedral in 1220.

Visit the historic belfry of Boulogne-sur-Mer

The belfry of Boulogne-sur-Mer is one of the oldest historic buildings in this port. This beautiful UNESCO world heritage site is 37 metres high and has been keeping watch over the city since the 12th century. The historic building used to be a keep that belonged to the castle, and in the Middle Ages prisoners were locked up here.
