An exploration of the beautiful dune landscape of the Schoorl Dunes is an absolute must during your stay at Dormio Park Scorleduyn! The holiday resort is located right next to the highest dune area in the Netherlands in the northernmost part of North Holland. There are dozens of bird species and no less than 60 kilometres of walking trails that lead you through ancient forests and along shifting dunes. About 100 years ago, the Dutch Forestry Commission planted trees in this area to stop the sand from drifting, but now some of the dunes are allowed to drift freely again. A beautiful sight to see!
Visit the cheese city of the Netherlands Alkmaar
Alkmaar is just a 15-minute drive from Dormio Park Scorleduyn and has everything you could possibly want: from a beautiful historic centre with charming canals and centuries-old courtyards to a wide range of shops and cosy bars and restaurants. There are also several sightseeing places such as the Waagtoren historic building, the Cheese Museum and the Grote Sint-Laurenskerk church. A visit to the Waagplein town square is an absolute must. This is where the world-famous Cheese Market takes place every Friday morning from March to September. This is a truly unforgettable event, where you can see cheese carriers skilfully carry as much as 160 kilograms of cheese!

The beautiful, quiet sandy beach at Schoorl has earned the international Blue Flag environmental award, guaranteeing that the bathing water is of excellent quality and the beach is kept clean. The port city of Den Helder is located in the northernmost part of North Holland, approximately a 30-minute drive from Dormio Park Scorleduyn. Because of its location on the North Sea, the Marsdiep and the Wadden Sea, this city is the home of the navy. It is also a great place to try some fresh local fish. Explore Den Helder's rich history and visit different museums such as the Navy Museum where you can see warships or take a look inside a submarine. You will also find many visible reminders of World War II, including Fort Kijkduin.
We can also definitely recommend the climbing park De KlimVallei. A visit to the harbour or the many shops the city centre has to offer are also a must. There is plenty on offer in this diverse city!
Spend an afternoon at the Klimduin
The Klimduin is located only a few minutes’ drive from the resort. This is an iconic 51-meter-high sand dune located in the centre of Schoorl. There are a number of restaurants with outdoor seating areas at the bottom of the Klimduin where you can relax while your children have fun in the sand!
