Explore the charming town of Heimbach
The charming centre of Heimbach is only an 8-minute drive from the hotel. Stroll through the historic town and climb Hengebach Castle, one of the oldest castles in the Eifel. This iconic castle was built in the 11th century, stands on a 33-metre-high rock and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area. Don't forget to visit the Jugendstil power station and take a tour of the Kraftwerk. Heimbach is a small town but has a number of interesting historical sights!
Visit the remarkable Mariawald Abbey
Just outside the centre of Heimbach, a fifteen-minute drive from the hotel, is Mariawald Abbey. This monastery was built in the 15th century and is an absolute must-see during lunch. The monks serve pea soup and drinks from their own kitchen. They make their own liqueur, honey, pralines and much more!

Visit the historic Vogelsang camp IP
About half an hour's drive from the hotel is Vogelsang IP, a former Nazi training camp from the 1930s that now serves as a visitor centre and museum. Walk past the imposing buildings and learn all about the history during a guided tour or at changing exhibitions. You can also climb the 173 steps of the Vogelsang Tower to admire an impressive 360° view of the surrounding area from a height of 48 metres.
Fishing in Lake Rursee
There are countless places along the 50-kilometre-long shore where you can fish in peace. You can also hire a special single-person fishing kayak directly in front of the hotel, so you can cast your line from the water. To fish in Lake Rursee, you need your own fishing licence and a local day permit, which you can apply for at the local council.
Cultural highlights in Düren and Monschau
About a 40-minute drive from the hotel, you will find the towns of Düren and Monschau, two different but equally charming places. Düren is known for its lively shopping streets, cosy cafés and the historic Leopold-Hoesch-Museum. Monschau is particularly loved for its historic half-timbered houses, narrow streets and location on the winding River Rur.
