Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, or just Chamonix, is an attractive small town at the foot of the Mont Blanc, which holds many surprises for mountain enthusiasts. Because of its favourable situation in a valley between the mountain ridges, Chamonix is a busy tourist destination. It therefore calls itself “the world capital of mountaineering”. The perfect destination for a day out during your stay in the French Alps!
As a guest of Dormio Resort Les Portes Du Mont Blanc you can travel to and from Chamonix by train free of charge. At the resort’s reception you can get a train ticket or ask for more information.
Chamonix is well known for its large ski area. Did you know that the first Olympic Winter Games were held in Chamonix in 1924? For experienced skiers, Chamonix offers the descents from the mountains Le Brévent and La Flégère, with intermediate to very hard pistes. Chamonix has green, blue, red and black pistes. So there is something to suit everyone!
Apart from skiing, you can take part in many other winter sports here. You can have a go at cross-country skiing, ice climbing or make a breathtaking hang-gliding trip.

In the summer there is also a lot you can do in the area around Chamonix. It is a great place for doing fantastic walks, road cycling, mountain biking and paragliding, while enjoying a spectacular view of the tops of Mont Blanc. In this magnificent part of the French Alps you can also take part in various water sports, such as rafting, kayaking and canoeing. The landscape is rugged, but it looks lovely in spring and summer when the flowers are in bloom.

You don’t have to leave Chamonix to have an enjoyable day. Walk around the town and look at the charming buildings or enjoy a drink and a snack on one of the welcoming terraces. There are also many activities to be done. For example, Chamonix has an ice rink, a swimming pool, a sauna, a climbing wall and two indoor tennis/squash courts. We also recommend visiting the Alpine Museum.
Don’t forget to try the Rablochonade. This is a delicious raclette using the famous regional cheese. You can also buy some Tomme de Savoice, the best-known local cheese, in one of the many attractive shops.
