Vallorcine is a quiet and charming mountain village in the Chamonix valley, a beautiful landscape with exceptional views. It is tucked behind the Col des Montets at the foot of the Aiguilles Rouges. Vallorcine extends to the Swiss border, and has retained the authentic appearance of a proper mountain village.
It is home to a number of friendly restaurants, interesting shops, an ice rink and a spa. La maison de Barberini, a house built in the 18th century, is now a museum open to the public, and exhibits everyday life from times gone by.
The snowy mountains are perfect for skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, sledding and snow shoeing, or for going on an adventurous trip with sled dogs or horses. The cable car in front of Dormio Resort Les Portes du Mont Blanc provides direct access to the Domaine de Balme-Poyaski ski resort. La Balme ski resort has well-designed slopes as well as a beautiful off-slope descent which takes you down into the valley. You can then catch the train back to Vallorcine. La Poya ski resort is the perfect place for your children to learn to ski. All the other ski resorts in Chamonix-Mont Blanc can be reached easily by ski lift, by bus or by train.
In the beautiful French Alps around Vallorcine you can practice many sports such as rafting, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, mountain biking and much more. You can also enjoy the beautiful nature from the air while paragliding. The environment in the Alps is rugged, but is exeptionally beautiful during spring and summer.
