Explore the rich history of Hasselt
There are different, interesting ways to explore the rich history of Hasselt. For example, do a historic town walk and come across impressive places of interests. Get a leaflet from Hasselt Tourist Information and follow the copper rivets in the pavement. These rivets have the shape of a hazelnut, which is the symbol of Hasselt. Or visit the Jenever Museum. Here you will find out how Dutch gin is made, and of course you can sample a glass of jenever afterwards!
Visit the Plopsa Indoor Hasselt theme park with the whole family
Children aged between 2 and 8 will enjoy a visit to the Plopsa Indoor Hasselt theme park. The park is indoors, which makes it the perfect place to visit when the weather is not so good. The attractions and furnishings of the park are entirely based on characters from the Flemish TV production company Studio 100. Step into Pirate Pete’s Crooked Barge, the K3 swing ride or Wicky the Viking’s roller coaster.
Visit the Japanese Garden in Hasselt
Visit the Japanese Gardens in Hasselt and walk past the colorful trees, different water features with beautiful flowers and the Ceremony House. Discover monuments such as the Japanese Gate, a Shinto shrine and the peace bell. This peace bell serves not only as a memento of the diplomatic relations between Belgium and Japan, but is also a memorial for the victims of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So feel free to ring the bell in the name of peace!
