Admire the unique murals in Heerlen

In 2013, Heerlen decided to support the urban lifestyle of the Parkstad residents by commissioning street artists to paint murals on what were mostly vacant buildings. This turned into a huge project involving many national and international artists. The town came to life and people from all over the world came to see the life-size works of art. The popularity of the murals meant that more and more buildings were made available for this form of art. Over the years, Heerlen has become the street art capital of the Netherlands. There is even an art route, which takes you past all the beautiful works of art.
