Perched at the top of Mount Benecantil, the historic castle and fortress of El Castillo de Santa Bárbara is one of the most iconic places in Alicante. Built in the 9th century, this Arab castle was used as a prison during the Civil War. You can walk or take the lift to the top of the mountain to admire the castle.
