The Fortifications of Vauban consist of 12 groups of fortified buildings and locations along the western, northern and eastern borders of France. They represent the most beautiful works of Sébastian le Prestre de Vauban. He was a military engineer of king Louis XIV. The area has classic fortifications at their peak, typical for the western military architecture.
The Cathedral of Amiens is situated in the heart of Picardy. It is one of the largest Gothic churches of the 13th century with a length of 145 metres and a width of 70 metres. The cathedral is remarkable due to the cohesion of its design, the beauty of the three-rows interior elevation, the large covered galleries and the astonishing high windows. The cathedral houses two bronze tombs, including the one of Edward de Foutilloy, the bishop who started the reconstruction of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe cathedral of Amiens in 1220.

The belfry of Boulogne-sur-Mer is one of the oldest historic buildings in this port. This beautiful building is 37 metres tall and has been looking out over the city since the 12th century. It used to be an old keep of the castle. During the Middle Ages, this is where court trials took place and prisoners were locked up. Today, the belfry symbolises urban freedom, and together with the city hall, which was added in the 18th century, it forms a unique building. So it's well worth a visit during your stay at Dormio Resort Berck-sur-Mer!
