Tip 1: Elche, the peculiar city of palm trees
A good start for your stay on the Costa Blanca with your (rental) car is Elche, "the city of palm trees". This city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List no less than three times! Elche is home to the Palmeral de Elche, one of the largest palm gardens in the world.
In this city you can also enjoy the Mystery of Elche, a sacred-lyrical musical drama that recreates the Dormition, Assumption and Coronation of the Virgin Mary. This play is staged every 14 and 15 August in the Basilica of Santa María. And that's not all, you can also visit a 12th century fortress: El Alcázar de la Señoría. This is definitely a special and historically rich city, not to be missed on your (rental) car excursions during your stay on the Costa Blanca!
Tip 2: The famous city of Alicante
Alicante is a renowned Costa Blanca city full of all kinds of sights and attractions, where you'll have a great time shopping and enjoying life. In the heart of this pulsating city is the lively Plaza de los Luceros. You can also wander around the port and stroll along the colourful promenade of the Explanada de España, or pay a visit to the Castillo de Santa Bárbara (Santa Bárbara Castle). This Moorish castle is located on Mount Benacantil, and during the Civil War it was used as a prison. From this enclave you will have fantastic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
If you're in Alicante during your stay on the Costa Blanca, don't miss La Albufereta and Cabo de las Huertas, where you can admire some very interesting archaeological remains from the Roman period. Check out the underground cistern and the impressive stone quarries!
Tip 3: The famous town of El Campello and the Canelobre Caves
Do you also want to enjoy the unique coastal area during your stay on the Costa Blanca? Then just take your (rental) car and head for El Campello, a coastal town with a great appeal for its beautiful and peaceful sandy beaches. El Campello also has many other things to offer, such as the archaeological site of La Illeta dels Banyets, one of the most important in the area, but there's even more: don't miss the popular marina and fishing port of El Campello, from where you can go out and practise a wide range of water sports.
Close to El Campello you will find the Cuevas del Canelobre, located in the Cabezón de Oro mountain range. In these caves you can admire the different types of stalactites and stalagmites that have been formed over the millennia by the deposit of mineral salts contained in the water that filters through the rocks. A must-see during your stay on the Costa Blanca!

Do you like nature? Well, there is certainly nothing more suitable for you than the Fuente Roja Natural Park! This natural park is considered to be one of the best preserved natural areas in the region, and is located in a massif made up basically of limestone rocks. You'll be left breathless by the breathtaking panoramas that can be seen from this mysterious place, which, thanks to its unique location and orography, is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including different species of birds, as well as wild boar, badgers and snakes, among others. Do the route of El Santuario de la Fuente Roja and, when you're finally perched there, you'll see how your eyes almost pop out of your sockets with the views over the Costa Blanca!
Haven't you had your fill of nature on the Costa Blanca? Then all you have to do is drive to the Fuentes del Algar. This succession of natural waterfalls stretches along the Algar river until it flows into the Mediterranean Sea. The water of this river stays fresh all year round, making it an ideal place to take a nice dip during your stay on the Costa Blanca!
Tip 5: The stunning town of Altea
Of all the unique towns and places on the Costa Blanca, Altea is one of the most beautiful, and definitely worth a drive. Altea has a beautiful old town, in which the fascinating church of Nuestra Señora Del Consuelo stands out. Also worthy of admiration in this beautiful place are the impressive church square and the typical whitewashed houses, not to mention the numerous art galleries.
A little further north, past Calpe, there is a magnificent promontory on the edge of the sea, where the breathtaking views of the coast and the surrounding natural park are breathtaking: the Peñon de Ifach, whose highest point is no less than 300 metres above sea level! It really is a beautiful postcard view of the Costa Blanca.
Tip 6: The popular towns of Benidorm and Villajoyosa
A great seaside resort on the Costa Blanca is the old fishing village of Benidorm. Here you'll enjoy unrivalled views of the Mediterranean Sea, lively nightlife and wide sandy beaches just a stone's throw from the town centre. A place much loved by many tourists!
