What is there to see in Altea?
Altea is an attractive village in Alicante province and is also known to locals as "the dome of the Mediterranean". This is because the church of la Señora del Consuelo has beautiful domes that you can see from the top of the hill. In Altea, you will find picturesque houses, pretty white facades and narrow stone streets decorated with colourful flowers and plants everywhere. We definitely recommend visiting Altea during your stay at Dormio Resort Costa Blanca. We have listed for you what there is to see in Altea, so you won't miss a thing!
Walk through the old centre of Altea
The old town of Altea is a true gem! In Altea, you can stroll through the winding stone streets and enjoy shopping in the traditional shops. The houses have coloured tiles and ornate doors, making each building unique. Be sure to take a look at the extraordinary statue of Alcoyano Antoni Miró
In the highest part of town is Altea's most symbolic building; the church of Señora del Consuelo. Across from the church you will find a viewpoint where you can enjoy the impressive views of the coast.
Tip: enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or a refreshing ice cream in the church square!
Stroll along Altea's promenade and harbour
Enjoy the fantastic views of the long Joaquin Planells promenade while trying typical dishes of the region in one of the many restaurants and bars. The most typical dishes of the region are various rice dishes from fish stew to fried rice with sausage, grilled fish from the bay, pebreta and cocas.
We also recommend a walk around Altea harbour. This is the permanent mooring for around 500 fishing boats that return every evening after a day of fishing.
Discover the beautiful beaches in Altea
Visiting Altea with a (rental) car? Then we recommend going to 'Playa de la Barreta'. This quiet beach of rustic stones can be found next to the Luis Campomanes marina, on the outskirts of Altea. A beautiful beach where you can have a great time!
Visit the Orthodox church between Altea and Calpe
Between Altea and Calpe lies Altea Hills. This is an upmarket neighbourhood where you can admire Spain's first Russian Orthodox church. The church of St Michael the Archangel is known for its Orthodox style and wooden exterior.
Tip: hike one of the hiking trails in the area, such as the Cañón del Mascarat or the Albir Lighthouse Trail.
Relax in Altea's tea garden El Jardin de los Sentidos
The tea garden El Jardín de los Sentidos is one of Altea's most famous attractions and therefore a must visit! It is a true tropical paradise of 3,000 m2 with an Amazonian feel. Here you can admire a wide variety of plants from all over the world while enjoying a delicious cup of tea or cool drink with a tasty piece of cake.
