The village is situated between the forests on the hillside of a natural snow valley. The slopes and the environment are amazingly beautiful. You are able to enjoy rougher rocks, alternated with more green than in, for example, Les Trois Vallées. Flaine is part of Le Grand Massif and the location in the bowl behind the gigantic Mont Blanc Massif means guaranteed snow. The northern hillsides are so ideal; it was almost MANDATORY to establish a ski resort here. Flaine is part of Le Grand Massif, the 4th interconnected ski area in France with 265 km of ski slopes. The possibilities are nearly endless and the places Samoëns, Les Carroz, Morillon and Six Fer a Cheval are more than worth a tour by ski. The slopes are diversified and the view of the Mont Blanc is impressive. Worth mentioning is the Cascade-slope with a length of 14k m which starts at the top of the Grandes Platières (2,500 m). From there, it gradually goes down to 1,700 m. The longest blue slope in Europe!
