If you like classic dishes, el caldero is a must. This rice dish based on rockfish will delight your taste buds. It is prepared in a copper or iron cauldron, which gives the dish a homely flavour. Arroz a banda is another well-known rice dish with fish prepared with a good stock of rockfish. Another typical speciality of the Alicante coast is el arroz con bogavante (rice with lobster).

One of the most famous rice dishes on the Costa Blanca is el arroz con costra. This dish is prepared with meat, sausage and a few beaten eggs to form a crispy layer on top. Pericana is a typical recipe from Alcoi, made with peppers, garlic and cod and flavoured with olive oil.

Coca amb tonyina is a delicious pasty stuffed with tuna. Traditionally, this dish is eaten on 23 June during bonfire night to celebrate the beginning of summer, but nowadays you can find coca amb tonyina in ovens all year round.

Another delicious dish that is very popular is gachamiga. This typical mountain dish is made with flour, water, garlic, olive oil and salt. To this, side dishes such as longaniza sausage, bacon, anchovies or costillejas are then added.

Costa Blanca's gastronomy offers some excellent main dishes, but you definitely don't want to skip the delicious desserts either! Turrón de Alicante o Jijona is a local delicacy and one of Spain's most famous desserts.

Another typical dessert from Alicante that you will want to try during your gastronomic holiday on the Costa Blanca is almojábanas. These are balls of Arabic origin and are soaked in syrup.
