There are many bike rides in the Eifel to choose from. The Eifel has countless, very well-designed cycle paths. The bike rides along the rivers in the Eifel are particularly ideal for families with children. There are plenty of spots along these cycling routes to rest for a while or have a picnic in the countryside. Along the way, stop to visit a castle, a museum, spot wild boar or take a refreshing dip in a lake. All of these routes are not too long, do not have very steep inclines and have interesting things for children to do along the routes.
The beautiful locations and quiet fishing spots are what make the Eifel a popular place to throw out a line. There are at least 50 kilometres around the Rursee where fishing is allowed. You can purchase a short-term fishing permit at the tourist office. To apply for the permit, you will need a passport photo and ID.

In the beautiful town of Manderscheid in the Vulkaaneifel lie two beautiful castles: Niederburg (lower castle) and Oberburg (upper castle). As the names suggest, the Oberburg lies above the Niederburg. The two castles are separated by the Lieser river that runs through Manderscheid. The Lieser used to be the border between the area of the archbishop of Trier and the counts of Luxembourg. Both castles date from 1173 and can still be admired today. It is quite a climb up so do wear good hiking shoes.
