Imagine yourself back in time with authentic jousting

If you are looking for places of interest in the Eifel, do not miss the Satzvey Castle. Satzvey is one of Germany’s most beautiful and best preserved castles in the Rhineland. The castle was built around 1396 – 1406 on an island in the water. Throughout history, there were changes in the (noble) families who lived in the castle. The castle with a moat is on the north-eastern side of the Eifel in the village of Mechernich. Tours are given all year round and you can therefore find out everything about the castle! In addition, many events are organised annually. Go back in time with authentic jousting, come shiver for the Halloween Festivities or visit the annual Christmas market.

Visit the two castles in Manderscheid

In the beautiful town of Manderscheid in the Vulkaaneifel lie two beautiful castles: Niederburg (lower castle) and Oberburg (upper castle). As the names suggest, the Oberburg lies above the Niederburg. The two castles are separated by the Lieser river that runs through Manderscheid. The Lieser used to be the border between the area of the archbishop of Trier and the counts of Luxembourg. Both castles date from 1173 and can still be admired today. It is quite a climb up so do wear good hiking shoes.
